So now I’ve made another move, this time from Blogger to WordPress for the whole site. WordPress is run­ning on my own domain hosted on servers at Go Daddy. This will allow me to better inte­grate my gallery with the blog, as you can see from the tab for the Gallery above. So its still all a work in progress, and might not turn out as I’m hoping, but you can’t tell until you try.

Flickr AND SmugMug

After a little more work and a little more thought I decided to go with Flickr together with SmugMug. Each has its strengths; I’ll use each for its best features.

So I’ll be posting almost every­thing to Flickr for its infor­mality and com­mu­nity. SmugMug will be the place for just my good stuff.

I’ve switched my pri­mary online photo storage from SmugMug (great site) to Flickr. After being a member at SmugMug and Flickr (the free account) for some time now, I’ve upgraded to Flickr Pro and will use that site from now on.

Here’s my analysis:

SmugMug Pros:

  • Flexible layout options
  • Possibility to sell photos online with their top level membership

Flickr Pros:

  • Tremendous social activ­i­ties — very active com­ments, forums and favorites
  • Unlimited band­width and storage
  • Nice imple­men­ta­tion of col­lec­tions and sets
  • Everyone who’s anyone is there
